How will your interactive learning resource specifically ensure that the needs of all learners can be met?
The interactive learning resource our group is preparing is the use of Scratch games in teaching basics of programing to kids. One way to make sure that needs for all learners can be met is to keep the course suitable for complete beginners without any previous experience. Without any pre-requisites, all participants will gain a strong foundation in the subject. It has a well defined instruction on all the small details like how to access any tools in the software. This resource have parts that can be used by the learners who does not have any knowledge about the subject and can be spiked by other learners.
Additionally, to ensure that needs of all learners can be met we can have in mind learners with disabilities and try to facilitate the use of technology for them. Specialized hardware and software, called assistive or adaptive technology, allows people with mobility impairments to use computers. These tools allow a person with limited, uncontrollable, or no hand or arm movement to successfully perform in school and job settings. for instance the learners who cannot use their hands can have the option to use their voice instead. The learners can give the instructions by their voice, for instance they would say press the start bottom and the computer would do so. For an instance, check out the following video for assistive technology in Action – Meet Elle
Other thing to have in mind is that students might prefer to work by themselves, while others may work better in groups. Scratch is a game that can be played with one or two or more learners. Set aside different options where all of your students can really thrive, focus, and engage with the lesson material. This is encouraged to work in groups but there should be options for the learners to decide to learn Scratch by having personal projects and do it individually and not necessarily with other learners
To ensure that the needs of all learners can be met we have to increase the awareness about the assistive technologies. By incorporating such technologies, we can have all the learners with different needs not experiencing any difficulties or barriers in our design.
